DORIS & ANNA KATRIN ZINKEISEN

Sisters ZINKAISEN. DORIS CLAR ZINKAISEN (1898–1991) is a theater costume designer, illustrator and writer. ANNA KATRINA ZINKAISEN 1901–1976 (married to Heseltin) - illustrator and artist.

The sisters of the artist Zinkisen were born in Scotland. Their father was a wood merchant and an amateur painter. In 1909 the family moved to England.

The sisters attended Harrow Art School. Both won Royal Academy Scholarships in 2017. In London, they worked in the same studio during the 1920s and 1930s and performed various artistic projects (costumes, posters and advertisements, murals and traditional paintings).

Doris Zinkaisen's realistic style made her popular as a portrait painter and she became a community artist. The subjects of her paintings, portraits of society, scenes from the parks of London and Paris reflect the lifestyle of the upper strata of society at that time.

Queen Mary (1935) and Queen Elizabeth (1940), Queen Mary (1935) and Queen Elizabeth (1940) were invited to work on the decor and painting. At the beginning of the war, both worked as regular nurses in a hospital.

Their murals can be seen on Queen Mary, now residing in Long Beach, California. In 1941, during World War II, the sisters worked as martial artists in Northwest Europe for the British Red Cross Society and the Order of St. John.

After the war, Doris Zinkaisen continued to work in London as a theater artist and from time to time held exhibitions of her paintings. She also designed the cover of the special issue of Everybody's Magazine, dedicated to the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in June 1953.
